In 1960, Kuraray became the first company in Japan to manufacture and sell hook-and-loop fasteners under the MAGIC TAPE™ brand. The name was inspired by the seemingly magical way in which two fabric surfaces can be repeatedly attached and detached.
The name "MAGIC TAPE™" spread nationwide when it was adopted as a fastener for the headrest covers of passenger seats on the bullet train, which made its spectacular debut in 1964, and attracted a great deal of attention.
Since its launch, MAGIC TAPE™ has remained Japan’s leading brand of hook-and-loop fasteners, widely used across industries for over half a century.
